I just finished watching Nankyoku Tairiku's fifth episode. Yes, I was teary-eyed again. I've been crying since I've watched  it's pilot episode. Well, I'm not gonna spoil what will happen on the next episode. But I'll give you a hint that it's about Himuro-san :(So those who haven't watch it yet? I'll post my previous review for you to have an idea what this TBS offering is.

I'm done watching the first three episodes of Nankyoku Tairiku.
Honestly, I've been wanting to see the drama mainly because of Takuya Kimura and its stellar cast. Aside from that, this version was based on the 1983 true-to life movie Nankyoku Monogatari and the Disney film remake Eight Below. But not until I've seen the first episode that made me cry. I'm also glad to see Ayase Haruka and Kimutaku together on screen again, after their team up in Mr. Brain.

The scene that brought me to tears. Whenever Haruo shows up on a certain scene with Kuramochi, my heart just breaks into pieces. Specially when I see him running around, smiling while carrying his baby sister.

Kuramochi and Inuzuka while on training with the Sakhalin dogs. This was the scene where Riki stood up to be the pack's leader.

The ship Soya after its completion, on their voyage to Antarctica and after docking off in Ongul Island.

Oh how lovely! Antarctic's midnight sun.

And oh! While reading a forum, someone posted these links of original photos and information of the first expedition [x] [x]. It was all written in Japanese but the photos were genuine enough that it was really from the expedition.

Awesome series! Such an epic and inspiring story and the whooping 2-hours on its pilot episode was worth it. TBS really did a great job for their 60th anniversary by offering us another masterpiece with star-studded cast. The haunting song on its background also adds up to its dramatic element making the scenes more heartwarming. Keeping my hopes high that it will not loose its momentum and the next episodes will be as exciting as the last three (I'll also get more tissues).
P.S.
The determination of the Japanese people is what made me appreciate them more. Nankyoku's story just showed us that this country will do anything to stand up and strive really hard to get their pride back. With the current situation of Japan now, is I think similar on whtat they have during their post-war era. So I was hoping they would get inspiration on this drama, after the earthquake and tsunami disaster hit them.
