RESTO and FOOD REVIEW: Gone Korean at Amateur Ramen Korean Restaurant
Wednesday, October 07, 2015
A few walks away from our previous office in Ortigas, you’ll find a little spot between a photocopying shop and a nail boutique. A Korean ramen shop named as Amateur Ramen Korean Restaurant.
The name is not attractive and does not sound Korean at all. But wait until you get inside and taste their ramen. Well technically, they just cook Korean instant noodles for you. Aside from ramyuns, special dishes such as japchae, fried tofu, tteokbokki and kimbap are being offered.
And because I know that their ramen will be too spicy, I ordered Jjajang ramen (Php 99) and a whole kimbap (Php 100) instead. By the way, for those who are wondering what a jjajangmyeon or jjajang ramen is, it is a noodle dish topped with thick black soy bean paste and bits of vegetables.
It was not my first time to eat jjajangmyeon but Amateur Ramen’s version was really tasty. So I ordered the same menu the following day I visited the shop again. I also brought in a batchmate and I finally tried their spicy ramen. I got myself their basic amateur ramen (Php 65) with mild spiciness and some fishcakes (Php 25).
I was not able to take a photo of their wall menu so I’m just listing down their menu and price list:
Basic Ramen:
- Amateur Ramen – Php 65
Mild Ramen:
- Curry Ramen – Php 99
- Gomttang Ramen – Php 99
- Jin Ramen – Php 85
Spicy Ramen:
- Sesame Ramen – Php 99
- Hot Ramen – Php 85
- Odongtong Ramen – Php 85
Hot Pot:
- Egg – Php 10
- Boiled Egg – Php 15
- Dumpling – Php 20
- Ham – Php 20
- Slide Rice Cake – Php 20
- Fish Cake – Php 25
Special Dishes:
- Jjajang Ramen – Php 99
- Bibim Ramen – Php 110
- Japchae with Rice – Php 125
- Fried Tofu Bap – Php 200
- Whole Kimbap – Php 100
- Half Kimbap – Php 50
- Tteokbokki – Php 250
- Side Dishes: Kimchi – Php 25
- Plain Rice – Php 20
They also offer Korean ice creams (Melona, Kapeore, Pangtoa etc) and drinks (Maxwell coffee, Cider, Let’s Be and Coke)ranging from Php 30 – Php 45.
How I wish we can still visit Amateur Ramen after transferring into our new office. We really need an affordable place where we can eat our lunch and dinner. And me being a Koreanphile, makes me miss this spot a little more.
