Omi's 2013 Challenges (Ganbatte Kudasai!)
Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Whenever the new year starts, I try to think of possible challenges to achieve by the end of the year. It may sound ambitious, but this year, I'm doing three challenges. Yes. Three missions to be accomplished.
And what are these challenges? Here they are:
- 52-Week Savings Challenge
I first saw this post about the 52-week money challenge on Ms. Chynna Hortaleza's blog. Then, the following days, my newsfeed has been flooded with the said post.
At first I don't understand it. But eventually, we got the author's point. I've been spending too much after I was diagnosed with cancer. My thinking was even if I save money, I cannot bring it to the other world. But I still tried. Unfortunately, I turned into a very impulsive shopper.
This challenge will really help me in bringing back the 'kuripot' in me. We'll be having our first out-of-the-country this August and we really need moolah for that trip. In addition to that, need to save not only for myself but also for me and shujin's future. We're planning to tie the knot on 2016, so we need to start saving NOW.
- 365 Days of Handwritten Typography
Do something creative everyday.
This quote has struck me since I saw it on a blog. That's why I always try to think things that will develop my skills.
It was 2010 when I first had my yearly challenge. I called it Shutterbugging, wherein I tried to capture random photos using my 3-megapixel camera phone. Tried it again the following year - 2011, to practice more on taking good snaps. I also finished a doodling challenge filling up a small journal on that same year. It was only last 2012 and 2013 that I skipped in doing challenges because I got sick.. But this year, I want to be back in being creative.
I love fonts. I'm so fascinated with the strokes, swirls and swishes on every letter. Adding to that, for the past months, I kept on seeing instagram entries of tumblr famous bloggers doing wonderful typography.I'm so envious on how they design it and so I decided to have this handwritten typography challenge.
I'm on my 10th day now and I'll be posting my works on this blog soon.
- Run Devil Run Fitness Challenge
I should have done this last year but I was too lazy. So this year, to get back on being fit, my shujin and I will be now start exercising.
Our belly is starting to get bloated and I hate it that my pants doesn't fit me anymore. I used to be thinner than Kim Chiu and have that super flat abs. But now? Never mind. I even lose breath just by climbing the overpass. So unhealthy. How I wish I can still do that effortless curl-ups and stair-climbing from 1st to 17th floor.
We originally planned on starting this mission on the first Saturday of 2014. But I got my monthly period that day so we had to postpone it. It was only this Saturday that we got the chance to jog for 10 rounds and do some aerobics. Indeed tiring because I'm not used to this kind of workout. But it was fun! We'll do it again this weekend.

How about you? If making New Year's resolution is not your thing, then creating challenges or missions would be the best alternative to make your year meaningful and productive. It's still January and you can still think of something to do and achieve for 2014.
