Omi's Review: Fabulous Boys (You're Beautiful Remake)
Saturday, June 29, 2013
After the Korean romantic-comedy drama You're Beautiful hit us by storm last 2009, I was already expecting that our fellow Asian countries will be interested in remaking it. Japan was the first one to produce a remake which has a title of Ikemen Desu Ne (2011) and was a huge success as well. The original version's Hwang Tae Kyung, Korean idol Jang Geun Seuk even cameod on its eight episode.
And this year, Taiwan acquired the rights to have their version of the series. It was given the title Fabulous Boys, which was also rumored that it was co-produced by Mr. Dao Ming Zi himself, Jerry Yan.
The series stars Jiro Wang of Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit/Fei Lun Hai as the 'notorious' and cold Huang Tai Jing; model-actress Cheng Yu Xi, as the aspiring nun-turned-idol Gao Mei Nan; Chinese-Korean actor Hwang In Deok as the timid yet kind-hearted Jiang Xin Yu and singer-songwriter Evan Yo as the lively and playful Jeremy.
Fabulous Boys runs every Sunday at 10 in the evening.
You're Beautiful series for me is one of the few dramas that I can watch over and over again. I always get that 'kilig' feel whenever I glued myself on the television.
Ikemen Desu Ne was good. The actors and actresses may not be as good looking as the Korean version but their charm is the same as the latter.
On the other hand, the newest version is quite impressive. I just finished the fifth episode and waiting for the subtitles for the 6th and 7th.

I'm glad that Jiro Wang were able to portray the lead role with justice. I can't think of any Taiwanese actor who can act the character Tae Kyung better than him! The main actress is not as pretty as Park Shin Hye or Miori Takimoto, but she suits well with the role. Looking at her, she seems androgynous. I can also see Rainie Yang on her.
I don't really know what to comment about Hwang In Deok's acting (he resembles Wu Chun, by the way). Same role and personalities, same acting. Nothing new. I think the only difference I've seen are their looks. Jung Yong Hwa were the rocker-boy-next-door type. Fujigaya Taisuke is more soft and feminine looking. While In deok is more manly.
And finally, Jeremy. He has the most cheerful personality in the series. Upon watching the Taiwanese version, I can see the similarities the way Lee Hong Ki and Evan Yo acted the role. Both were really cute. Unlike Yaotome Hikaru of Ikemen Desu Ne, I can't even remember his scenes. Oh well, I think he still need to practice acting then.
Fabulous Boys, as a whole is very interesting to watch. No dull moments on this series because every characters exceeded my expectations. They're really good. I'm just hoping that subbed episodes will be updated soon because I can't wait to see the next scenes (although I already know what's going to happen).
