RESTO and FOOD REVIEW: Toasted at Toast Box

The first time I saw Toast Box in Taguig, it already brought me interest. I'm always on a food hunt and I'm willing to try any dishes as long as it's not exotic and not made of blood. I googled the shop and found out that they are offering delicacies from Singapore such as Hainanese chicken, Nasi Lemak, toast set etc. The food reviews are so inviting so I immediately scheduled a day to visit the shop.

It was on Friday afternoon before heading to work that my feet dragged me at Toast Box Trinoma branch. This branch is quite small and they share the space with Bread Talk. There are less than ten tables and chairs so it cannot accommodate larger crowd.

I ordered the Kaya toast ser because I was so intrigued what it taste like. It includes two half-boiled eggs, kaya toast and a choice of kopi (coffee) or teh (milk tea). My set arrived alittle late. I was already starving to death because I still haven't eaten breakfast and lunch. Upon seeing the two eggs, my eyes popped out. "Uh oh! Darn! I forgot how to eat these eggs! Ugh! Before heading to Toast Box, I've already searched the internet about it. Unfortunately, I could not remember a thing. Holy cow!

(Sorry for my stupidity. My friends used to call me 'Memory Girl' because I can remember the tiniest details. That was before. After I acquired this fatal disease and had thyroidectomy, Ms. Memory girl vanished).

Kaya Toast Set (Php 145.00)

I tried to google it on my phone but for some reasons, the wifi connection and internet suddenly stopped working. Crap! Out of desperation, I just cracked the top part of the egg; put some soy sauce and pepper on the yolk; and scooped it with a spoon. If only I was seating at the farthest corner of the shop, I might end up slurping it like a 'balut'. Hahahaha.

An old woman sat in front of me and ordered the same set. I still have one egg left, so I secretly watched her cracked the egg. And I knew it! What I was doing all along was wrong! So how's the proper way of eating your half-boiled egg (and kaya)? All you have to do is:

1. Crack the egg and pour it on the small bowl.
2. Put some sou sauce and pepper on it and mix.
3. For an 'ultimate' kaya experience, dip your toast on the yolk.

I was laughing at myself after I've seen the proper way of eating it. Oh well! At least I've learned something new.

Going back, the kaya toast set was delicious. It was my first time eating bread with kaya spread and I liked it.

The spread somehow taste like coconut jam but it's not too sweet. Now I want one. Is this spread available in our local grocery stores? If not, can you recommend an online store here I can buy it?

The kopi on the contrary was too strong. My tummy crumbled after I drank it. I think I should have tried the teh instead.

There you go! That's my Toast Box experience. If you're looking for a food stop that offer hearty breakfast or brunch, better head on to Toast Box and have a taste of an Singaporean early meal. Hoping to visit the café again sooner to try the other menu.
